Gather, Connect, Learn, Grow.

At River Street we believe God is calling us to become a community committed to deep love for one another and our neighborhood.   We believe his Spirit is empowering and equipping us for this journey of growth and transformation.  Since we are a small group, we take our inspiration from Mark 4:30-32 -

He also said, ‘With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable will we use for it? It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.’

We Believe...

The core of who we are is wrapped up, summed up, shaken up, and poured out in the person of Jesus Christ and our relationship with him.  All of the following basic theological beliefs are important and we hold them to be true doctrines.  However, Jesus is the unavoidable centerpiece.  Jesus in his birth, ministry, philosophy, sacrificial death, and victorious resurrection is what makes our beliefs meaningful.  To that end, a relationship with him is what integrates a human being into the Church.  We do not require a test in doctrinal statements, we do not expect everyone to agree on every line. That doesn't mean we don't teach doctrines or that we avoid them.  It does mean that Jesus is who unites us (see Romans 15:5-7).  Not doctrinal propositions, no matter how authoritative.  We realize this is a unique position and may inspire you to ask questions.

God:

  • Exists eternally in three persons- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

  • Is the Creator of all things

  • Is holy, perfect in love and righteous in all ways

  • Is fully revealed in the Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ:

  • Is God’s incarnate Son

  • Was born of a virgin and became a man

  • Is fully divine and fully human

  • He is the model for our way of living as individuals and as a church together

  • Was crucified as a sacrifice and only atonement for our sins

  • By the power of the Holy Spirit he was bodily resurrected from the dead

  • Returned to heaven to prepare a place for us

  • Will come again to fully establish his kingdom

The Holy Spirit:

  • Leads us into all truth

  • Convicts us of sin

  • Guides us to repent and confess Christ as Savior

  • Lives in and teaches us

  • Empowers us by His presence to live a holy life

Men and Women:

  • Were created in God's image

  • Were created to live in relationship with God

  • Were tempted by Satan and rebelled against God

  • Are separated from God because of Sin

  • Can be forgiven through repentance and personal faith in Christ

  • And therefore live with him eternally; this vision includes life-after-death, but we also believe believers live now in a discipling relationship with God intended to produce the fruit of his kingdom here

The Church:

  • Is the living body of Christ who is its head

  • Is composed of all who have received Christ as Savior and accept Him as Lord

  • Is called to unity among all believers

  • Is on mission for Christ in the world

The Kingdom of God:

  • Is a present and coming reality in the world

  • Is characterized by reconciliation and peacemaking

  • Calls us to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with God

  • Will be consummated at Christ's return with the final judgment separating the righteous and unrighteous
